Hmmm … I haven’t written here in a while.  I’m still training, although I’m slowing it down and will take a week completely off coming up soon.  I was having a great time training up until a week or so when I still felt like working out but began to notice some aches and pains and then realized that I’d better take a real break, or I’m going to be completely burnt out early next year.  I’ve got a weird thing going on in my hamstrings and also something weird going on in my shoulders, which makes me think I’m not stretching enough after swimming (I’m not stretching at all, really).

So this past week I ran and swam as usual, but rode only twice, and next week I’ll do something similar or even less, and the plan is to take the following week off entirely.

    I hope your aches and pains go away as you take some recovery time. I don’t stretch enough, but am trying to get better about that! Have you planned out some specific events to do next year?

    Thank you! I have found that if I don’t stretch, I get completely messed up — then the aches and pains get really bad. I’m trying to work on specific events for next year, but I’m uncertain about it. I want to compete in triathlons, but I haven’t done them before and so don’t know what I will be able to handle. I also can do bike races, but I’m not sure what ones I’ll feel like doing. I’m kind of in between a bike racer and a triathlete, which complicates things a lot. At some point, I’ll just have to commit to one or the other probably.

    maybe a few yoga classes during your off week will help you sort out your aches and twinges? Yoga has tremendous diagnostic value on top of everything else…hope you feel better SOON!

    You’re right, Courtney — yoga would definitely be good for next week. Or at least some serious stretching. I need it for my hamstrings and hips and arms — I need it everywhere …
